I run many counts for my various clients and as soon as they mention that their campaign is telemarketing I know the volume of data is going to drop dramatically. What’s frustrating for me and I’m sure many others is the fact that when a consumer moves home and gets a new phone line connected the suppliers automatically add people upon TPS and also in many cases ex-directory as well; most people don’t even realise and therefore don’t have the choice to receive targeted direct marketing calls.
Perhaps TPS should make it just as easy to opt-out as the phone suppliers make it to opt-in! Another option would perhaps be that consumers have to re register every year if they wish to stay on TPS?
Some of you may have seen a recent Dragons Den program featuring a product called “Truecall” which screens incoming calls to consumer’s phones. If a number is not recognized then the caller is played a recorded message asking for their name and company which is then played to the consumer who can then reject the call, answer it or get the caller to leave a message! The guy who made it also hopes to incorporate it into actual phone handsets rather than a plug in box. All the Dragons thought this was a fantastic idea and all squabbled to invest in the product but my worry is that this will just be another blow to the DM industry!
